The Town of Kirkland Highway Department collects brush & green waste from April through October, weather permitting. Please pile brush neatly with the butt ends toward the road. Keep in mind that we will likely be picking it up by hand.

The roadside miles we cover to completely pick the town one time, stretch in a straight line from Clinton to Newark, NJ.... over 170 miles! During peak growing times and after storms this can pose a challenge. We try to circulate completely through the town, once, every two to three weeks. By design we do not publish a schedule. While other communities have limited collection to specific times of the month or year, we try to provide ongoing green waste collection as a convenience by including it in our Summer work schedule. There are times when staffing levels drop or our highway repair work takes precedence. During these times it might take us longer to get to you. Please bear with us through these times.

Years ago we asked that you cut brush into 4 to 6 foot pieces. We now use different equipment and those small pieces are actually more dangerous for us to place into the machine. It is easier and safer for us to pick up one large branch or tree rather than the same branch cut into hundreds of small pieces. The general rule is; If you can get it to the road... we can handle it from there. Our chipper can process most any size material we can feed it. It is easier and safer for us to pick up one large branch or tree rather than the same branch cut into hundreds of small pieces.

We do not accept stumps.

Please take note: If your work is done by a contractor, they are responsible to completely dispose of the debris.
